This story finds the Chestnut Bard amongst humans, who are struggling through a plague. He is misunderstood and subjected to persecution. As a force of nature he responds in the only way he knows how, but finds himself overwhelmed by the thing against which his one weakness presents as his ultimate vulnerability. It is a result of an earlier act of kindness that he is reborn and actions towards the restoration of a new balance are set in motion.
