I wrote Pumpkin Brains while I was growing and harvesting 26 varieties of squash on my allotment in Bath in 2004. They were beautiful in the autumn sun light.
Here we have the story of pumpkins which have developed carnivorous tendencies and lie in wait to predate on travellers who fall asleep in the long grass beneath the stars.
Mendhi Singh tuned many of his tablas to match the keys of the guitar track.

PUMPKIN BRAINS
Behold… The Rain.
Like drops of silver metal, Feeding pumpkin brains.
There rides a vine:
Rustling leaves and tingling spines;
The breathing earth has sighed;
Pushing forth its daughters to the night.
Hark… A Beating Drum.
Far on the horizon, the dancing of the sun.
There rides a vine:
Yellow blooms with tails that bind;
Whispered thoughts for swelling minds
Robed in gold and bathed in dappled light.
Behold… The Moon
All mercury and shivers, the chattering of doom.
There rides a vine:
Stealth through shadows - out to dine;
Ankles pulled beneath the glen.
hungry pumpkins feed on bones of men!
Hark… The Flames.
Leaping cross the meadow – calling out your names.
There a pumpkin grins!
And there another; pumpkin twins.
Liked by crimson’s hot desires,
Pumpkin lanterns circle you in fire.
