I wrote this poem for a friend who was feeling unwell and needed a cuddle.
I was recording with Jenny Bliss. We were jamming. I began reciting the poem and she improvised along with it - She hadn't heard the poem before - It all happened in the moment.
lyrics
THE GENTLE SPIRIT OF THE NIGHT
The gentle spirit of the night
Was sailing on a sea
Who's waves were jiggled by the wind
A storm was blowing in the north
And winters cold had driven ice between her toes
Her breath was glass
Her hair was heavy with the spray
She tuned and spoke a word of calm into the tempest's roar
And called upon the shadow of the sun
"Come lie beside me...
Be my cloak of warmth
Together we shall travel
In the minds of those
Whose slumber breaks on troubled shores
And there amidst the tearing rage
The shadow raised his arms in open form
And held her in the place
Where light had once adorned
The power and fibre
Of his tensing raw and naked pride
A place where now
A gentle, silent cradle
Rocked her loving...
