I'd written a riff that I liked on my Mandrake Tresolin - I recorded in the night when it was quiet, but was surprised to discover that the recording had loud snoring all the way through it. It was my dog "Stella".
I reflected on how I hadn't even noticed her snoring and that although I had in the past had difficulty sleeping next to women who snore loudly, I somehow manged to sleep through my dog's snoring, even though on occasions it could be louder than that of my girlfriend. Then the mischief kicked in. Instead of scrapping the recording , I wrote "My Mouse Snores" and recorded it onto the track.
lyrics
MY MOUSE SNORES
I had a girlfriend once
Who shook the deepest caves on earth
With snores like rusty bellows
Sound waves braced with girth
I just could not sleep
I stuffed my ears with dough
And lay in the baking sun for a month
In the hope that the bread would grow
"Tell her" came the kind advice
From friends with spells and magic mice
That's right...
One of them had a mouse
That could sleep in the pillow of a snoring wife
I thought "Whats the point of that you daft div
That's not gonna help me sleep is it?"
But I decided to try it for a year and a day
funny thing is ... the mouse never slept
It just whispered in my ears
Run away with me...
run away with me to distant shores
Look... I've got these mighty rowing sticks
Come with me to the river bank
Where my boat is safely moored
We went speeding down the river Nile
Played tricks on hungry crocodiles
Scaled the sphynx and danced in tombs
Wore steam punk goggles
Did a sonic boom
And all was sweet
My ex found a man who snored louder than her
And they rumbled together in glee
Their seismic waves
Leased ghosts from graves
Brought mountains to their knees
Me and my mouse bought a mansion in Crete
With garden gnomes and a pond
I built it a pretty gondola
And I sang it beautiful songs
(Go on band, give it some)
Then came that fateful day
When I caught my mouse asleep
It snores like ten tonne buffaloes
Does farts that knock down doors
The simple truth I need to tell you all is this
My mouse snores
