I visited a friend, Andrew Filson with my daughter in 2016 and he told us a story of a night when the fairies had been messing with him in the woods and about how his friends in Northern Ireland wore their jackets back to front if they got lost in the woods so they could find their way out. This got my imagination working. I had a riff that I had recorded at my friend's place (Phil and Leigh), and as I worked on the tune, the lyrics came out.
Thanks Andrew for the inspiration and thanks to Phil and Lee for allowing me to record at their house.
lyrics
MAGIC PATH
Day is done as the setting sun
Edges o'er the horizon
Night begins as darkness brings
The crackle of flames and the shadows of things
As the faces raise from your dreams
Whispers all around
Bells on the breeze
Faces in the trees
"You thought you were alone
We know your name"
A magic path that none can find
A tick tock backwards now unwinds
We'll have to wear our jackets the wrong way round
If we want to find our way out back to town
Back to town
And be sure to stay hungry
Till the end of the ride
